AI Video Export Looks Soft on Social Media: Where Quality Gets Lost

An AI render may be sharp on your computer but softer after upload. Understand compression, framing and source detail before chasing 1080p.

AI Video Export Looks Soft on Social Media: Where Quality Gets Lost

You download a video that looks reasonably crisp, upload it to a social platform, and discover that the face looks softer. There are at least three opportunities for quality loss: the AI model's own output, the file you export, and the platform's subsequent processing.

Compare the original download first

Open the exported MP4 locally and inspect a frame where the face is clearly visible. If the face is already soft, the limitation may come from the model, reference image or chosen resolution. Reposting the same file will not add detail.

If the local copy looks good but the uploaded version does not, look at the platform's recompression and available quality options.

Avoid unnecessary conversions

Saving and re-saving a video with lossy compression can add blur and blockiness, especially around hair and skin. Keep a clean source export and create platform-specific versions from that original rather than from files already compressed by messaging apps.

Frame size is not the whole story

A 1080p file is not guaranteed to look sharp if the AI invented low-detail facial texture. Conversely, a stable 720p result can look perfectly acceptable at mobile viewing size.

Large areas of motion, darkness or fine texture are especially demanding for compression. Avoid over-sharpening these regions; harsh edges can introduce new artifacts.

Design for the final display

If the subject occupies just a small fraction of a wide frame, social-media viewers may struggle to recognize them on a phone. Where composition allows, a closer crop can make the result more readable without changing the underlying generation quality.

Keep subtitles clear and avoid tiny text rendered directly by an AI model. Add labels during conventional editing when you need accuracy.

The practical takeaway: troubleshoot at each stage. Do not buy a more expensive model run until you know which stage caused the softness.
